File Transfer Proctocol (FTP)

FTP (File Transfer Proctocol) lets you look through file stored on computers around the world and copy files that interest you.

File Transfer Protocol (FTP), a standard Internet protocol, is the simplest way to exchange files between computers on the Internet. Like the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP), which transfers displayable Web pages and related files, and the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), which transfers e-mail, FTP is an application protocol that uses the Internet's TCP/IP protocols. FTP is commonly used to transfer Web page files from their creator to the computer that acts as their server for everyone on the Internet. It's also commonly used to download programs and other files to your computer from other servers.

As a user, you can use FTP with a simple command line interface (for example, from the Windows MS-DOS Prompt window) or with a commercial program that offers a graphical user interface. Your Web browser can also make FTP requests to download programs you select from a Web page. Using FTP, you can also update (delete, rename, move, and copy) files at a server. You need to logon to an FTP server. However, publicly available files are easily accessed using anonymous FTP.
Basic FTP support is usually provided as part of a suite of programs that come with TCP/IP. However, any FTP client program with a graphical user interface usually must be downloaded from the company that makes it.

Advantages of File Transfer Protocol

  • One of the biggest advantages of file transfer protocol is that it is one of the fastest ways to get large files from one computer to another.
  •  It's also efficient because you don't need to complete many operations to get the entire file or files transferred.
  •  Most FTP servers require you to log in with a username and passwod.
  • FTP allows you to transfer files back and forth. This means that if you are an owner of a company, you can send information to your employees and they can send information back all on the same server.

Disadvantages of File Transfer Protocol

  • The disadvantage of anonymous FTP is that you have little control over who accesses your FTP server or how often they do it.

  • If you have particularly popular file downloads, it can place quite a load on the server. For this reason, many organization with limited resources have chosen alternatives like BitTorrent to distribute large files.

  • Because anonymous FTP allows users to access the server without authentication, you will need to take extra security steps to prevent exploits.

  • Be sure to disable the SITE EXEC command, chroot the public directory, and disable any write privileges. If you have no pressing need to offer anonymous FTP services, it is better to disable it completely.

The Biggest Loser Asia

The Biggest Loser Asia’s first pan-regional unscripted weight loss series made its world debut on the 24th November 2009, and is now opening the doors for its second break through season.

The first season saw Indonesia's David Gurnani take the title, losing over half of his body weight and transforming his life, along with 16 of his fellow contestants. With these amazing results, The Biggest Loser Asia joins this global franchise in combating obesity worldwide and bringing help, motivation and education in health and fitness to those who need it most.

Unlike most competition shows, the heart-warming unscripted series challenges its contestants to lose to win, and promises its participants a chance at regaining their health and ultimately, their lives.

It is a dream come true for many who have been bogged down by health problems as a result of carrying extra weight on their bodies all of their adult lives.

In 13 weekly one-hour episodes on Hallmark Channel, we will get to know those who have put their faces, bodies and pride on the line, to show the world how serious they are in cutting the fat from their lives.

Facing a drastic diet and lifestyle overhaul, contestants will have to surrender luxuries in life, submitting themselves to intense training and living a life solely focused on regaining their health, whilst being taught the skills and discipline necessary to maintain this lifestyle at home.

The path to weight loss for the contestants is highly challenging and filled with temptation as it would be in real life, and the contestants will face daily mental and physical challenges, as well as being faced with tough decisions when it comes time to face the drama of elimination day!

Early on in life, Kristy was drawn into the world of health and fitness due to her own body image struggles as a teenager. Having successfully managed weight issues in her own life and went on to become a national aerobic champion. Kristy has been running her own Personal Training business for the past 17 years. She currently travels the world for Health and Lifestyle retreats and is a popular speaker on health for corporations.

And it is reflected in her training style, which is best described as an integrated and holistic approach.

Finding out what lifestyle factors are affecting one’s health is the key to achieving balance. She likes to give her trainees an education as to why they should be eating something or moving a particular way for example, as they are more likely to change their behaviour if they have a reason for it. As a motivator and role model, she always has a smile on her face and often builds a strong connection with the members in her classes and her clients to lead them better in the journey towards wellness.

One of her favourite quotes is, “It’s not just about exercise” and she intends to bring that to The Biggest Loser Asia in cutting the fat of the contestants.
